40 Days of Blessing

Lent 2020
North Point Church

I will bless you and make your name great,
so that you will be a blessing.
Genesis 12:2b

He refreshes my soul.
He guides me along the right paths
for His name’s sake.
Psalm 23:3

“I am the vine; you are the branches.
If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit;
apart from me you can do nothing.”
Jesus’s words in John 15:5

I invite you to join me on an adventure this Lent of listening, enjoying and following. The next 40 days present an opportunity to receive and share the blessings of time with our Creator! In this time, we will see God’s kingdom coming in the circumstances and relationships of our daily lives. No matter where we are in our journey of faith, the upcoming days can be a time of significant blessing.

This blessed adventure is possible because God is speaking, loving and abiding with us. God desires to interact with you in personal, profound and life changing ways. Actually, if you commit to taking this journey for 40 days, you will discover that it is not just me but God who has invited you into this focused time with Him.

Why 40 Days?  It takes time to develop new habits. Most of us have developed habits which get in the way of listening, enjoying and following God. This extended time can provide the space for us to identify those hindrances in our relationship with God and learn new life-giving habits that strengthen our relationship with Him.

Only God knows exactly what the next 40 days will hold for each of us. But because of how I see Him working in the lives of people in the Bible and today, here are three things I know for sure. It will require us prioritizing this time.  God will meet us in this time. And this time with God will be good!

Your fellow traveler,
Tom Dabasinskas

The next 40 days will involve time alone with God as well as together with fellow travelers. A key habit to learn in this journey is noticing how God is present no matter where we are or what we are doing. From the mundane to the difficult, God is present with us. It will take some work to recognize His presence in all areas of our lives. We have developed ways of thinking and being that distract us from God. We will need to SNAP out of those and open ourselves up to what God wants us to know and who He created us to be.

When we take this time to stop and notice, we will discover that God has been there all along. God has been pursuing; struggling and sacrificing to get our attention that we might know in the deepest part of our soul His immense love for us.

I pray that in these next 40 days, that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the glorious Father, may give you the Spirit of wisdom and revelation, so that you may know him better. I pray that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know the hope to which he has called you, the riches of his glorious inheritance in his holy people,  and his incomparably great power for us who believe. That power is the same as the mighty strength he exerted when he raised Christ from the dead. Ephesians 1:17-20a
