Q&A

Baptism

Baptism is a sacrament that confirms and bears witness to our relationship with Jesus by faith. It portrays our identification with Christ in his death and resurrection, and it affirms our willingness to follow Jesus as his disciple. Those who are baptized:

  • Acknowledge their sin
  • Accept the gift of God’s grace
  • Become formal members of the congregation
  • Begin a new, lifelong journey with Jesus
  • Commit themselves to keeping his commandments

We ordinarily baptize by the sprinkling of water, but are willing to baptize by immersion by request and with the approval of the session. Infants are ordinarily baptized in keeping with Covenant theology but we are willing to dedicate children instead by request of the parents.

Membership

Church membership is an expression of personal discipleship, affirming that believers are a spiritual family. As different as we may be in other ways, we are united by our common faith, our possession of the Holy Spirit, and our calling to serve God in the world. Membership is a covenant which expresses our oneness and pursues our calling together. Membership moves us from consumer to investor in the local church.
